What makes an egg “rare” in Steal An Egg?

Eggs in Steal An Egg sit on a rarity ladder. Common eggs keep your economy moving; rare eggs are the ones that transform it, hatching into rarer pets that generate more money per second. On top of rarity, pets come in different sizes and can roll mutations — variant layers that drive the late-game collection chase.

Exact rarity tiers, spawn odds and mutation rates are not officially published by the developer. This page covers the structure of the system, which is confirmed, and the spawn timing the community has observed, which is flagged as such.

The ~5-minute rare egg cycle

The community consistently reports that rare eggs spawn on a roughly 5-minute cycle. This page is marked community-reported because of exactly this: the cycle is a strong player observation, not an official figure.

If the observation holds, the implications are big:

• Rare eggs are predictable in timing, not pure luck.
• The player who knows when the last rare spawn happened has a real edge over the player who is just wandering.
• A stale guess is worse than no guess — if you do not know when the last spawn was, you are racing blind.

1. Position — be near the spawn area before the window opens, not after the egg appears. This is what the predictor’s WAIT signal is for.
2. Speed — if two players reach an egg together, or the owner chases you on the way home, Speed decides the outcome. Check whether you are fast enough for the attempt with the speed calculator.
3. Route discipline — know your path home before you grab. A rare egg in your hands makes you the server’s biggest target.

Losing the race is not wasted time, by the way: seeing the spawn is itself information. Log it in the predictor and your next window estimate gets better.

What rare eggs hatch into

Rarer eggs produce rarer pets with higher income — that is the confirmed core of progression. The pets the community is currently hunting hardest, the Crane and Cave Dragon, are both tracked on their own pages with obtain methods still being verified.
